Well posted from the UK some odd thoughts...
Its not just the protesters who have registered on TV news here, it is the lack of the usual official crowds we see at State Visits.
When Bush was driven from Buck House to Westminster Abbey the streets were lined with police (not as usual in State Visit Ceremonies with decorative troops ) and just about no citizens hostile or otherwise in sight. Do US viewers realise just how odd this is at a State Visit here? We usually manage at least a few hundred schoolkids and office workers given an hour off...
The whole procession, police vans ahead, armoured car with The Visitor and more police vans behind was also a highly peculiar sight. It voilates all our ceremonial protocols and makes for uneasy viewing. We happen to have a high-profile murder trial in London right now, and the news switched from visuals of the Bush procession to visuals of the accused being ferried to court police vans ahead, armoured van with The Accused, police vans behind... for one second it was difficult to separate the two news sequences ...
For what its worth
