Check out this quote from the
CNN story about Gore's endorsement of Dean:
"I have a lot of respect for Al Gore -- that is why I kept my promise not to run if he did"
-- Sen. Joseph Lieberman
Um... pardon me, Joe, but how, exactly, did you keep your promise? Gore didn't run; therefore your promise is completely moot. Have you been spending too much time with George "Mission Accomplished" Bush? Why couldn't you have just said, "I have a lot of respect for Al Gore -- that is why I would have dropped out if he had entered the race." I think it's a dumb thing to say anyway-- it's basically an admission that Gore would be a better candidate than you (and since Gore's endorsing Dean...)-- but at least this way you wouldn't come off as quite so pathetic.
On the other hand, Joe, you could just embrace the lameness. You could start by promising to achieve world peace if you are chosen as the Dem nominee. That way, when you lose the nomination, you can say you kept your promise. Heck, while you're at it, you might as well promise to donate $1 billion to AIDS research for each primary you win. Thus, each lost primary is balanced by a kept promise. What a brilliant strategy!
You know what, Joe? I'm convinced. Forget all the bad stuff I've said about you. I promise to vote for you in the GA primary if Dean, Clark, Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards, Mosely-Braun, Sharpton, and Kucinich have all dropped out by then. And that's a promise I intend to keep.
