Just a note: conventional wisdom holds that the capture of Saddam Hussein is a Really Big Deal, something that will catapult Bush to an insurmountable lead and force Howard Dean to bow and scrape and why are those Democrats even
bothering...well, you get the idea.
How big the bounce for Bush ends up being, of course, depends on how things end up in Iraq. But how big is the immediate, euphoric, "We Got 'Im" bounce for GDub?
Well, depending on the poll, three or four percent.
Certainly, a bump for Bush is a dip for the Democrats. But I was expecting at least high-single-digits, if not double digits. I'm sorry, America. I didn't give you enough credit.
I'm glad Saddam is in custody; I think everyone but the crazy fringe is. But catching Saddam, while nice, changes nothing about whether we should've been in Iraq in the first place. At best, we can hope it helps make our troops a little more secure.
