I did it. Today I made the decision to switch from Dean to (tentatively) Edwards. My reasons are simple:
- Iowa was a test of the netroots and its ability to deliver voters in a way that differs markedly from regular campaigns. Dean's admirable operation failed the test. Thank god we had this test before it became too late. If new voters and anti-war voters aren't enough to power Dean over Kerry, how on earth will he ever beat Bush? Now we know. We were lucky enough to get an early answer. It was sobering. We must win in the fall.
- I have really been impressed (and suprised, frankly) by both Kerry and Edwards's ability to parry the RNC charges in a polished, appealing, and yes, Presidential manner that will help them win in the fall. I wish Dean could communicate like Edwards. If only we could fuse traits of these men we would be happier. But we can't and the reality is we must choose. My overriding wish is that we be electable and beat Bush. So today I make my move. From Dean to Edwards. Let the chips fall where they may.
