Hi all, just got finished reading George "Ill" Will's latest column. He attempts to draw a distinction between what the Republicans want, a
stong government, versus what the Democrats want, aka
big government. Since "small government" has become laughable as a rallying cry for the GOP, Will is test-marketing the "strong" variety for Karl. Apparently, under a "strong" government, the aim is still to wean citizens from dependence on government programs and foster responsibility, just like the small gov't types, but still to acknowledge that retirement, health and national defense are realities which gov't must participate in. Apparently, everything the Republicans will push in their strong gov't programs will foster freedom of choice, where big gov't proponents are just commies.
I don't think this will work. Not because I expect the Democratic Party to expertly jump on the obvious weaknesses in this distinction, but because this is extremely convoluted, nuanced BS that relies on the public remembering and relating older Republican talking points. It's really weak.
Here's the link, if you can stomach it.
