I'm pretty sure most everyone center and to the left has learned their lesson and won't be turning out en masse to vote for any 3rd party lefty's this year, but my gut tells me the Democrats better watch out for another major Green push for the POTUS run in 2008.
I'm just pulling this forecast out of my a**, but let's say (god forbid) we get four more years of W. In 2008, I see the Greens will go on an all out offensive against the Dems, since after 8 years of Bush/Rove, the Dems would probably be the weakest they've been since the Greens came on the scene.
AND, even if the Dems do win with Kerry or Edwards, odds are that both will have a fairly lackluster first term since the Rethug dominated Congress will cripple anything the Johns would try to accomplish, and even then, it's highly doubtful that Kerry or Edwards will do much to satisfy the Greens desire for markedly progressive changes.
I'm no hardcore Dem, but as a casual observer, their struggle doesn't end with unseating Bush, that's only the beginning. If we do get Kerry or Edwards elected this year, they've got a pretty big circus to run in order to secure a 2nd term. There's the Green threat as previously noted, and they'd better do a damn good job satisfying the base (esp. us nutty Deaniacs), or they run the risk of a lot of the core left electorate staying home or voting Green.
Am I way off in this assessment? This is all just a passing thought I had reading about Nader's possible run...
