NEW YORK In his forthcoming book, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson will reveal the name of the person he believes leaked his wife's identity as an undercover CIA officer to columnist Robert Novak. But Novak will come under the microscope in the book as well. "There's some damning stuff in the book about Novak that no one knows about, including a story that pulls the whole picture together," Philip Turner, editor-in-chief of the publisher, Carroll & Graf, told Publishers Lunch, a popular book industry newsletter, today.
Turner told Publishers Lunch that Wilson acts as both a memoirist and reporter in the book. "He has many sources among journalists who have been covering the story," Turner said. "Many of them would seem to be more comfortable talking to Joe than reporting on the story" directly.
The book, "The Politics of Truth," to be published in May, is subtitled "A Diplomat's Memoir: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Exposed My Wife's Secret CIA Identity."
A federal grand jury has heard testimony from at least four White House officials in its investigation to identify the leaker of Valerie Plame's name to Robert Novak, who published her name in his syndicated column last July. Numerous other officials have been interviewed by the FBI.
A spokeswoman for the publisher of Wilson's book told the Associated Press she did not know the identity of the purported leaker. Wilson has previously said that White House political adviser Karl Rove condoned the leak but was not the actual leaker.
The White House has repeatedly denied that Rove was the leaker. If found, the leaker could be charged with a felony that carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
