After 3+ years of lapdog media treatment, Bush suddenly finds himself on the defensive big time twice within a single month, first on the AWOL issue and now with the Clarke revelations.
In both cases, nothing is attributable to Kerry, Kerry has effectively "no comment", and in the most recent instance, Kerry is off skiing in Idaho.
Something is nagging me that I've seen this technique in operation before, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
I'm sure there are similar instances from the 1960 Kennedy campaign - either primaries or general election - but I can't recall specifics. Something about the style says to me "Kennedy campaign tactics", but I can't narrow it down any more than that.
Of course there are two other possibilities: Bush and friends have pissed off the CIA and some smart former or current operatives from CIA are orchestrating this. The other possibility involves metallic head wear.
Either way, I'm hoping this hasn't just been good luck and that there really is either good Kerry strategy or some heretofore invisible hand guiding this.
James Bond's rule (from Goldfinger, I believe) is: Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action. I'm looking forward to the next event.
Anyone else share my suspicions?
