I just received word that Meteor Blades nearly died last week. He had a pulmonary embolism, and his heart had stopped beating until an ER team revived him.

His recovery is expected to take months, and as such, he will be taking time off from guest blogging on the site. The choice is an obvious one -- he needs to focus on getting better. So here's wishing him well on the road to recovery. I'm trying to find out where we can send flowers or an Amazon wishlist so does of us who want to send him a little get-well gift or note can do so.

Update: Meteor has written a diary on the subject. He also said he didn't want anything sent to him. He'd rather you guys spend money on defeating Republicans or donating to the Native American Rights Fund (his favorite cause).

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)

I am glad he survived the embolism, as that can be a quick killer.  For once, lucky.

Meteor Blades is one of the few people who have been around, nearly forever, and know the score. I have appreciated his commentary, and look forward to seeing more of it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I had a heart attack in December, which for me was extremely illuminating in terms of my overeall health picture.  Since I am only in my low 30's, naturally it was quite shocking to me, but it allowed me to take every measure I could to deal with my health issues to insure that this doesn't happen again.  I have never felt better and have never been fitter, and this is only 3 1/2 months out.

I'm not sure I know what the root causes of a pulmonary embolism are, but if there is something underlying that you can fix, then hopefully it will be a blessing in disguise, as my heart attack was for me.

Heart disease has run in my family, but those sad examples never took care of themselves in the least.

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. I don't know if my doctor allows tears as part of my recovery regimen, but what can I do? You all are too kind.

    Three comments:

Thanks to the fact my wife works under the protection of a tough educators' union, her employer has been "terrorized" into providing 100% health coverage for all her dependents. No deductible. My total co-pay was $50 at the emergency room. Even my drugs are covered at the 90% level.

For everyone who insists on making a donation, I DO have a favorite. It's the Native American Rights Fund.

Some people insist on calling me a "hero" for my past political activism. I appreciate the flattery, but please. That word is way too diluted in our age. Every time I see it used promiscuously, it gives me a twinge because real heroism is made paler.

And y'all know that my system can't handle any twinges right now.

I don't know about the word "hero", but I do know that you have the courage of your convictions. You are a man of profound integrity, decency, kindness, consistency, and thoughtfulness. I'll take a man like that over a hero any day.

I am very, very glad that we get to keep you around, but especially glad that your family still has you. Even if you never come back here I am happy knowing that. Although of course like everyone else here, I really, really want to hear from you! In the meantime, I am very glad to see that you are scrupulously listening to your doctor's orders. Keep doing that. I don't want to see you back here until you are 100% ready :)

  •  Oh Man.... (none)
...just this morning I was wondering where MB's insightful comments and diaries had gone.  When I read the news I got the shivers and had tears come to my eyes.  No sh*t.  And I don't even know MB, just his comments.  The blog is a family (sometimes dysfunctional, but still a family) and MB is our wise uncle.

Meteor, get better soon!  All my best thoughts and love go out to you.

  •  Not so fast, Meteor (none)
There's a saying that goes something are here on earth to do some work.....whatever your life's work is...and you don't get to leave until it's done. Guess you got more work to do....Meteor. And please, we will contribute to the Native American Rights fund, but some of us would also like to send you something...just for you.

Thanks for your Kos contributions and your activism. We need you to hang around.

You don't get to slip away just yet. Besides, you have to stick around to see the thrilling conclusion to this latest battle in the culture wars we have been fighting since the sixties. C'mon back soon!

  •  You'll be missed (none)
You're in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.  You're loved around here.
  •  What they said (none)
I want to associate myself with all of the MB love. I love you too!

PS: I wish my doctor would limit me to 2 hours on the internet a day. If so, I would be so productive otherwise...(not as well informed, but productive).

May the Great Spirit hold you in the cup of His  hand and may He breathe into you the blessing of great health and many, many years. Peace, brother.

  •  Get well soon and hurry back to us MB (none)
You are a wise and soulful person MB, I feel as though I know you even though I've only read your words on a computer screen.  Thank you for your insight and passion.  My best wishes for a full and swift recovery, and I'm making some further campaign contributions today to progressive Democrats around the country in your honor.

Get well soon, Meteor Blades. As others said, don't stress too much because you're offline and can't post. Your health is the most important.
We miss you, as we missed Steve Gilliard a couple of months ago. Yet we're lucky and thankful that you both survived and are headed for full recovery.
  •  Take Care (none)
First it was SteveG, then BartCop gets cancer, now this?! Sheesh.

    Bonne Chance MB.

  •  best wishes MB (none)
Dodging a bullet can be a life changing event.  Fortunately for us MB has not lost his wit or his inner fire.
  •  You duh Man (none)
Hang in there Meteor. You are a political hero and we we need all the political heroes we can get.
  •  hang in there, man (none)
the whole world's wishing you well!
  •  What's Happening Here...!!! (none)
First, it was Gilliard we thought we were going to lose down there, amongst the saner voices in U.S. America, and then Meteor Blade up and pulls this. It's as if to prove the really good ones are hard to hang onto, and keep wanting to slip away from us.

Hang in there, brother. There's no one, absolutely no one out there I hold in higher esteem than yourself. Get better. Your country, being "the people" of that land, and we in the "concerned broader community" out here, still need your voice and wise counsel. The many directional threads and past experiences out of which you come has still many valuable things to say.

Take care. My thoughts and concerns go out to you.

  •  MB, (none)
It's a tremendous privilege sharing server space with you.  Your writing is suffused with humanity, and you write about things that will still matter when the election season is a distant (but hopefully happy) memory.

Rest deeply.  Laugh often!  We'll be here when you're ready.

    Love ya, man.
