Yesterday, sane democrat posted a
diary on the WP's series profiling a "red" and "blue" family.
The "red" family lived in Sugarland, TX (home of bug killer Delay)
Not by coincidence, I imagine, today's "blue" family lives in San Francisco, CA (home of ovaries of steel Pelosi)
You can find the article here.
What I find interesting is that they didn't exactly pick a godless latte swilling family (and indeed the article seems to talk about the religiosity of the family a great deal), but the sort of people that I imagine most of us would be comfortable around. The dad expresses doubt about the utility of giving dollar bills to the homeless, while generally praising government and politicians. The daughter complains that on some days teaching low income children of immigrants drives her nuts (although she turns down the offer to work at a school with more affluent pupils)
Of course this is something of an artificial exercise, since there is a fair amount of variety among red and blue households, and ways in which some red and blue households are also similar, and the thrust of the story very much depends on the families chosen and the way the reporter covers the families.
However, I was curious after reading the first article to see how the contrasting family stacked up. So there it is.
