The horrifying beheading of Nick Berg is a reminder that we do have terrible enemies in the world. What Iraqis have to with this, as opposed to say Pakistanis or Saudis is another question.
However, Conservatives are seizing on Berg's death in an attempt to reclaim the moral high ground. Their eqaution is: Beheading Berg is worse than abusing prisoners. My question to conservatives is what makes beheading morally superior to beating prisoners to death?
US Military investigators have already ruled the deaths of two prisoners in US custody homicides. 10 other prisoner deaths are still under investigation.
Is it the video of Berg's death that makes it worse? Well there are pictures if not videos of dead Iraqi prisoners. It must be posting the beheading video on the web as opposed to the humane practice of US soldiers to distribute their photos by email.
One other distantly related observation. Why was Congress shown the pictures of US soldiers (apparently Pvt. Lyndie England) having consensual sex with each other? Is that a crime? Is it subject to investigation? Or is this just an attempt to discredit England before she could testify that her participation in the prison scandal was at the direction of her superiors?
