Nedra Pickler in AP. In a nutshell: Nader endorses Edwards, Gep for VP; rejects Bayh, McCain.
This being Nedra Pickler, I'm sure there's an angle here somewhere, but I didn't see it. Highlights:
Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) said Sunday he had advised John Kerry (news - web sites) to choose North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) or Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt (news - web sites) as his running mate on the Democratic ticket.
Okay. Nader is endorsing Edwards and Gep? I don't get it. Gephardt in particular is supposed to be the kind of Democrat Nader is opposed to...right? This is especially weird considering the way he dismisses Bayh (who dismisses him right back):
Nader rejected the idea of Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona joining Kerry's ticket. Kerry has repeatedly praised McCain and many in Washington have speculated about the appeal of a Kerry-McCain ticket, but Nader said: "McCain really should be taken at his word. ... He's not going to do it."
Nader also said he wouldn't support Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh for vice president because "he's a very soft Democrat."
Later on the same program, Bayh responded, "I'm happy he's not registered to vote in Indiana."
The rest of the article is softball stuff about Kerry and the Red Sox. Thoughts?
