I remember Byrd being the only Senator wondering aloud on the Senate floor why there couldn't just be a couple more hours of debate on the war resolution. Not days, not weeks, just a few more hours. Of course he was rebuked.
What I would like one of these Democratic Senators to ask on the Sunday Morning Circuit, is how misplaced are our priorities as a Nation when we spend a full five days debating a political stunt amendment, but only spend a few hours on giving the President unbridled War Powers.
I would like to see a table showing the number of hours spent debating the War Resolution and comparing it to the number of hours spent debating every other piece of legislation that has come to the Senate floor. I am positive it would be very revealing. Remember the filibuster of judicial nominations. How about the amount of time committees have spent discussing Steroids? Are these things more important than sending our men and women to war?
If anyone knows of a resource that shows historically how much time is spent on the Senate floor debating the various issues, please let me know and I will compile the table myself.
