Yesterday we had a volunteer training session. The Texas Democratic sent trainers. Over fifty volunteers came from all parts of the congressional district. We learned a lot and had a ton of fun.
More after the jump.

First off, the Texas Democratic Party has made a serious commitment to train volunteers. To make an ongoing effort to do this, even after the election. This is the first time that I have seen this since we moved here 9 years ago. They realize that they took this for granted and are determined not to do so in the future. Did you know that Texas has more registered democrats than republicans. The republicans have just been more persistent in getting out their message, energizing the base, and getting them to vote. That is changing now!
We are working on changing the way values are discussed. One of the values that will be pushed is valuing hard work over wealth.
We realize that we might not win Texas for Kerry, but we are working on making it close. Bushes poll numbers are dropping here. I know that he is worried. He has been airing campaign ads in Houston. I don't recall it being done this early in 2000.
Richard was there. Gave a rousing speech. He is definitely in this to win. However, he talked about what is most important is getting the liberal message out. Reclaiming what we stand for.
He told a funny story. That morning, before he came he was called by a polling outfit. He was asked the following:
What is most important to you
-education
-tax cuts
-the war in Iraq
-one other thing I don't recall
Answer: Education
Are you a democrat or republican?
Answer: Democrat of course!
Who will you be voting for as president?
Answer: John Kerry
Who will you be voting for your congressional representative, Tom Delay or Richard Morrison.
Answer: Richard Morrison definitely!
He then asked them who they were doing the poll for.
He was told Richard Delay.
The interesting thing was that Tom Delay has not commissioned polls in the past. A poll was done last week, and Tom Delay is polling at 51%. The last election he won with 63% of the vote. That is basically a 12 point drop of support.
Also, even though I 'm not in Richard's area, I have adopted a precinct. I got the list of democrats that have voted there in the last three primary elections. I have 135 people who voted in the last 3 democratic elections. What is interesting though is I have 300 people who voted democrat for the last primary. A good sign I would say.
