A recent BBC interview with
Jafar Dhia Jafar may be the coup de grace of the entire WMD story as told from the "horse's mouth".
With this in perspective now, it is a cruel juxtaposition to read about how we are experiencing a relative calm before a storm in Najaf, where I can only hope that our soldiers pull out, rather than face an army of thousands who are willing to fight to the death to "
set back injustice".
And what would be the harm in pulling out? Would we appear "weak" in the eyes of the "insurgents"? For what gesture could we now be seen as offering the olive branch of peace that our own symbol so wistfully glances towards on the seal of our democracy? It seems that unless we should desire to reprint all of our bills with the Bald Eagle's head turned to the RIGHT, we should seriously reconsider our self-righteous and indignant posture in the face of this attack under which we claim to be reacting.
Please can we take a step back and look at what we have done? We are a monster stirred from a 226 year slumber by a David that is seen as justified by the majority of the world's disenfranchised population. It is difficult to see this reality from inside the belly of the beast, but we fail to do so at our own peril.
For the senseless slaughter of almost 3,000 of our fellow countrymen, we have senselessly slaughtered nearly 20,000 other innocents half way around the world. How many more have to die? If we kill 50,000 will it keep an attack from our shores? If we pull out now, will it keep an attack from out shores?
