Everyone there was REALLY energized.
The plan of attack is starting to unfold.
D. Foster primed us on what to expect and explained to us his GOTV ("Get Out The Vote")strategy. There lots of volunteers to start manning a phone bank at the Newberry HQ on a daily basis until the election.
Also, set out a plan to travel to different cities in the district for door-to-door literature drops.
Jim Newberry talked for a few minutes about meeting others throughout SW Missouri (Dem, Rep, and independents) who have expressed to him that they feel it is time for a change.
He said that his biggest obstacle is overcoming people's mindsets that a Democrat cannot win in this district. He told us that "we can win, but we have to believe it, and we have to act like change is possible or it will never happen."
I realized that he is not in this to simply slow down Roy Blunt's political machine. Jim Newberry is in this to win! I honestly believe he is going to be our next Congressman.
I talked to him for a few minutes afterword and he said he wished he could get on Daily Kos and thank everyone for what you have done to help, but he has his hands full traveling around SW Missouri, meeting people, and trying to learn what the constituency is looking for in the changes they claim they want.
Still, he is going to try to get on here and post a message this week sometime.
After the meetup, I was so energized that I just did not want to go home. I went to SMSU and hung up flyers and bumper stickers all over campus on the bulletin boards... it took me over an hour.
By the way, SMSU (Sotuhwest Missouri State University) is where John Edwards is going to speak on Sunday. They are expecting at least 8,000 people according to Kerry's campaign staff that is here in Springfield.
Jim Newberry's campaign manager assured me that we are going to take advantage of that opportunity to make people aware of Jim Newberry and that there is hope for us in the 7th district to finally have our interests represented genuinely.
