When McCain-Feingold bill was debated, the President's stance was that it was unconstitutional and limited free speech a fundamental American right. Now however, in response to the request to denounce the Swift Boat ad lies, the chorus of GOP surrogates, as well as the president, repeat the call to the Kerry campaign to join with President Bush to call for an end to all of the ads being run by the 527 groups. Clearly a huge "flip-flop". Has the President and the GOP re-considered the appearance of corruption in large corporate, labor and wealthy individual's contributions to the political process such that it is worth limiting a fundamental American right? Or is he calling once again for the restriction of our rights as citizens for short term political expediency?
