If you look at the recent
Gallup poll of Ohio, you'll see that while Bush leads by 1 point among registered voters, he leads by 8 points among likely voters.
Now what does that mean?
It means that Gallup thinks a significantly higher proportion of Bush supporters are going to show up on election day than Kerry voters.
Many folks think Gallup's LV screen is badly calculated. And many folks think that it's still a bit too early to be using LV screens in the first place.
But the truth remains that most pollsters show Bush performing better among LV than among RV. And if the polls are very close on election day, whichever side turns out a larger proportion of their supporters will win.
And that brings us to ACT. This group has been formed to register Democrats, get absentee ballots to Democrats, and turn out Democratic voters on election day. More than any other single group, ACT will make the difference for us in a close election. And not only will they help us elect Kerry and defeat Bush, but by bringing more Democrats to the polls, they'll help in close House and Senate races too.
Your contributions are paying salaries for people doing the grunt work of canvassing.
If you'd like to prove pollsters like Gallup wrong, send ACT a few bucks, and make the election look more like the RV numbers than the LV numbers.

And while you've got your credit card out, consider sending a few bucks to Texans for Truth too. (That's the group that is publicizing Bush's AWOL problem.) Because of the additional news coverage given to issues like this, a small ad buy can generate a big impact - just like the SBVT did for the other side.
If you've got $70 to spare, I'd advise allocating $50 to ACT and $20 to Texans for Truth.
