Helen Thomas is an inspiration. She's been in the White House press corps since the Kennedy administration -- and she alone has had the backbone to confront Ari and Scotty with tough, persistent questions.
I wrote to her about the One Simple Question posed at The World's Shortest Blog, and she responded with the world's shortest thesis on the dysfunction of the press corps under W.
Upon my gushing about how much I admired her, and asking her to consider The Question -- if not ask it -- she gave this reply:
From: "Helen Thomas" [helent@hearstdc.com]
To: "John Goldstone" [john_goldstone@yahoo.com]

He won't call on me-helent
There it is in a nutshell: The Question's very reason for being.
W won't call on Helen Thomas -- or, I daresday, anyone else Karl Rove thinks will ask a difficult question.
W has been able to keep his criminal record a secret through two presidential campaigns.
Enough is enough.
Kossacks: Please consider asking the question yourself!
