So I was walking to work today in my typical early morning half-asleep fog. As I turn the corner, something catches my eye. It's the cover of the Philadelphia Weekly, one of Philly's weekly alternative papers. Splashed across the front: "VOTE KERRY OR BURN IN HELL".
That wakes me up and makes me smile, but in a grim kind of way. Funny, but really true, isn't it?
On the inside cover, their
endorsement of Kerry:
...John Kerry is the easy choice for us.
He is, though, hardly perfect. He sees things in shades of gray. It takes us too long to know what he's thinking.
But he's no Karl Rove creation. He's no attack dog. He wouldn't assail an opponent's patriotism.
With Kerry, Iraq will get both strategic and diplomatic attention. He'll be straight about how it's going. He'll bring us home--faster.
He'll go after the real enemies with focus and inclusion.
We'll lose the arrogance. He won't think simplistically. He won't be afraid to admit mistakes.
Europe will remember the reasons we were once allies. The Third World will believe the dream. We won't be alone and afraid with all our possessions.
The White House won't be filled with ex-CEOs and sycophants and friends of the religious right.
Stem cell research will move forward.
Assault weapons won't be legal.
Programs that do children good--like Head Start--will get a second life.
The Supreme Court will get thinkers.
We won't have a nasty junkyard dog as our vice president.
Cities like Philadelphia won't be forgotten.
With Kerry, we'll feel free to hope again.
For the fence-sitters out there, I think those are pretty concise, compelling reasons to vote Kerry. As if the burning in hell part wasn't enough ;-).
