That will be the emerging GOP spin I think.
(That, along with the immutable flip-flop, which has a life of its own, unhinged really from day to day events in the real world)
- They will minimize the significance of debates in general.
- They will seize on polls where viewers said kerry won but didn't change their vote.
- They will even go so far as to paint Kerry's victory as liability
- They will give Kerry faint praise for winning in a technical sense, for being brainy.
- They will say Kerry scored points at the expense of sending dangerous "mixed messages."
- They will say Kerry cares more about winning debates than winning the WOT.
- They will say being a strong leader takes more than just "fancy talk."
We must convince the press and the people that Kerry did not just win
the debate (a 90 minute rhetorical exercise that Yale snobs often excel at), but that he won
The Debate over US foreign policy. The public saw Kerry's vision and carriage and prefered it over Bush.
Shorter:
"Kerry won the debate not because he showed the best debating skills, but because he showed the best leadership skills and the best plan for our country."
