I just got back from working as a crew member on PSAs for "Rock The Vote." A-List stars, forty fired-up liberal co-workers, and a great cause -- what's not to like?
Outsourcing and the Bush Recession have hurt the film industry just as they have hurt the general job market. So my work as a sound mixer has been a bit less frequent than optimal, which means I haven't been able to give as much money as I would like to worthy candidates.
So it was a great pleasure to donate my time and talents to the project, as did every other member of the crew, and all the talent, including Samuel L. Jackson, Leo Di Caprio, Justin Timberlake, Ricky Martin, Peter Gallagher, William from the Black Eyed Peas, and others.
A project of this scale would normally cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to shoot, but they managed to get it done on a shoestring budget, and the PSAs will be hitting the airwaves shortly. Hopefully it will make a small but real difference on November 2.
So... what have you done? What time or talent have you donated to the cause? Because voting is something, but this year, we can't assume it will be enough.
UPDATE: I forgot the website -- a very important part. www.rockthevote.com
