The more I think about the first debate, the more I believe that this phrase, uttered in a moment of defensiveness and spite may have been the thunderclap signalling the end of the Bush administration.
This little sentence is a showcase for the flaws of the Bush administration.
It shows Bush's anger and defensiveness as he tries and fails to defend a disastrous policy in Iraq...
It shows his lack of knowledge of the world with his dogged insistence that Poland is an integral part of his coalition.
It highlights the relationship this administration has with the truth. The statement itself is a lie. John Kerry was right. Poland was not part of the initial invasion.
It shows the true weakness of the Bush presidency. After a scathing and well-thought critique of Iraq policy by Kerry, the best Bush can do to counter is to argue semantics.
Finally, this phrase took on extra irony the next day when Defense Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski of Poland announced that his country would be withdrawing their troops within a year.
This is a phrase we should be repeating as much as possible. Forget about polls. This is some of the best evidence I've seen yet that we're going to win.
There is already a website about it at www.youforgotpoland.com and it has already become a theme on my college campus. On Saturday Team "You forgot Poland!" came in second in the 2004 foosball championships.
