Yes I know we're in the thick of things right now, but when better for some non-political stuff. Besides lots of sports junkies kossacks out there. Although baseball fans may well outnumber those turned off by the increasingly GOP-fied NFL there are still a good number.
It's now Week Four and even though it's only a quarter of the season, let's face it; by now, barring a serious injury to a key player, you pretty much know where you are for the rest of the season.
You're either in the Bottom Tier of teams down with Tampa Bay and Kansas City and making all sorts of excuses: ("We're better than our record", "Guys need to start making plays", "There's no one in this league with more heart and dedication than (fill in the blank with name of good player on horrible team)"
or you're in the Top Tier with Philly and New England and doing the whole false-humility thing: ("We haven't started even considering the mere possibility of the playoffs which are a long, long, long, way off, and the though of the SuperBowl hasn't even begun to cross our minds in the least. And don't even ask us about having a perfect season which we absolutely, positively do not care about at all")
In my town, the Washington Ethnic Slurs are dying. The return of Joe Gibbs wasn't going to be an automatic trip to the playoffs, but OOOSH! 1-3, and that 1 is from the abysmal Tampa Bay. If something doesn't change fast, we could easily wind up 5-11 for the season.
My fave team is from my old home of Oakland. They're even up, but I don't hold any great hope, as they're coached by Norv Turner who was ineffectual in Washington for years. Still, i'll keep fingers crossed. If they're able to pull out a winning season he'll be able to yell at D.C. owner, Dan Snyder, "Guess what! It's not me, It's YOU Boy Wonder!"
So how goes it with your team, either hometown or sentimental favorite?
