The Bush-Cheney gang staked it's entire case for war on two assumptions:
- That Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, including a program to develop nuclear weapons.
- That our biggest security risk was for terrorists to get their hands on these weapons.
Most thinking people now accept that these assumptions have been proven wrong. Yet, many Bush supporters still insist Saddam had WMDs, we just haven't found them yet. What if they are right?
IMO, if the rethugs want to hang themselves with this argument, we ought to provide them as much rope as possible.
Assume, for a moment, that Saddam did have WMDs but would not deal with OBL. Who secured these weapons after Saddam's army fell?
There can be only one conclusion... The WMDs HAVE FALLEN INTO THE HANDS OF TERRORISTS! By invading Iraq without a plan to secure the peace, George W Bush played into OBL's hands, providing terrorists free access to Saddam's WMD stockpiles.
The evidence is everywhere: The looting of the Iraqi National Museum. The total breakdown of security. The failure to secure Iraq's borders. The increased globalization to terror organizations.
By this stupid blunder, George W Bush may be responsible for precipitated our worst possible nightmare.
