A lot of Republicans are fond of reminding me that most of the planning by the terrorists for the 9/11 attacks was done while Clinton was in charge, so why didn't he do anything to stop them.
I always think to myself "Yeah, the terrorists did a lot of planning during Clinton's time in office but notice how they waited until a nincompoop was sworn in before they actually carried out their plan."
Earlier, I reread an excellent article written last year about the Project for The New American Century by Bernard Weiner at crisispapers.org, describing the hisory of the PNAC and their goals for the US when Republicans came back into power.
His article refers to an ABC News article that notes in a report just before the 2000 election the PNAC predicted that the changes would come about slowly, unless there were "some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor."
I'm assuming this report was posted on PNAC's website at the time it came out and if so, isn't that almost like an invitation for terrorists to attack?
I mean think about it. If you're a terrorist planning an attack against the US and there's an organization out there that wants to make radical changes in the US in a hurry, and the people in that organization are now in office, but need a catastrophic and catalyzing event to occur before they can put their plans into high gear, then what better time to carry out your attack?
I think the 9/11 hijackers knew their mission would be successful because the current administration needed them to be successful in order to implement all the changes we've gone through as a nation since then.
I keep seeing the PNAC as the matador, waving the red cape and Al-Queda as the bull just itching to attack. At the last minute the PNAC matador jumps out of the way and America takes the hit from the bull. America, you were GORED.
Or am I just crazy?
