I've talked before about how many Administrations love to put bad news out during the Christmas holiday; the press is focused on things like Santa's visit, canceled flights from Britain, and so forth. But the fact that even I didn't hear a word about this is just scary; this seems like it should have been a huge story. On the front page of one of the Chicago Tribune pages I kept from when the Bulls won a championship, they also noted when the stock market hit a major milestone. So, why in the world did no one notice that this milestone was smashed through? This one is at least as important. Please note it and, if you have your own blog, please publicise it widely.
The U.S. National Debt has topped $7 Trillion Dollars.
Practically no one in the media even noticed it. The Washington Times and the L.A. Times noted it in passing (in other articles), the Salt Lake Tribune mentionned it a week before it happened, and both the Sierra Times and "Workers World" of all places were the only places to give the breaking of the barrier an actual article. No NYT. No CNN. No WaPo. No NYPost. No Tribune. No Sun-Times. No ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, or Fox News. This is outrageously bad reporting on all their parts. Isn't this extremely newsworthy? It's been years since we broke through any other levels.
