I saw a sneak preview of
Team America: World Police yesterday. It was a great movie. It was disturbing, funny, depressing, and stupid all at the same time. I could write about a few things, but I felt that this movie deserves it's own diary.
First of all, it's with puppets. That is part of the joke as well as the pyschological effect of making it more disturbing. For example, there are scenes where they look fairly realistic in their movements and you almost forget that they are puppets. On the other hand, you have fight scenes and walking scenes where they look incredibly stupid. Intentionally of course.
Also, this movie was originally given a NC-17 rating because of a puppet sex scene. I saw this scene in the R-rated version, and I have no idea what they supposedly cut out. It was pretty explicit, at least as much as puppets can be.
Also, I think it provided a very ironic look at how the average American views the world. The theater was full of people laughing at it, but I have to wonder if they were laughing because they realized that we were stupid sometimes, or if they were laughing because they thought it was a great realistic thing.
Also, some things were disturbing, particularly the emotional scenes. This is probably the most gory film I've ever seen. You have people being shot in the face and their heads explode, people being chopped in half, etc. They were puppets, but I've never seen puppets with that much blood. Maybe they turn into a "real boy" beforehand.
Anyway, go see this movie. It's fucking funny, if you like South Park. Just think of it as a cross between South Park, George W. Bush's world view, and The Thunderbirds. Hilarious stuff.
I think that Kerry should put out a bumper sticker that instead of saying, "A stronger America" it should say, "AMERICA: FUCK YEAH!"
