Fox Jinxing Perfection (Baseball, not Politics)

Ok, I know this is off-topic, but this is bothering me and DailyKos has taught me how to deal with such frustration.  This is a diary about baseball, not politics.

During Game 1 of the ALCS, Mike Mussina was throwing a perfect game through the first 6 1/3 innings.  The problem is, the announcers KEPT TALKING ABOUT IT!!  Any baseball fan out there knows that it is unethical, and just plain not cool, to talk about it when its happening.  If a pitcher is throwing a perfect game, his teammates won't even look at him between innings, let alone talk to him about it.  It jinxes the accomplishment before it is even accomplished!

Look, whether you are a Red Sox fan or a Yankee fan, this could have been history in the making, and even though them talking about it didn't make Mussina give up his first hit, or run, it's just not right.  So all you baseball fans out there, take a moment out of emailing Sinclair and its advertisers, and start bombarding Fox Sports with some bad mojo directed to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for what it did.

  I'm happy that it got broken up. After the no-hitter was gone, the Sox went on to score five runs and change a blowout into a tight game.

      is simply the most knowledgeable, most coherent color man baseball has ever seen.

      You folks may think he is a thinly veiled Yankee fan, but consider that he did commentary on Yankees broadcasts for three years, and his show is broadcast from NY on the same network that the Yanks were on for years (MSG).

      No, he's not well liked, for some reason.  Perhaps he's an asshat in person, I don't know, never met him.  But I bet a lot of people will be claiming to be his best friend when he's inducted in Cooperstown.

  It isn't Fox's job to keep quiet about a perfect game.  Besides, the superstition is that you aren't supposed to mention it in the dugout, on the field or anywhere that the pitcher might hear it.

  But since  a lot of announcers are former players, they just carry that habit into the broadcast booth.  But that was not the superstition originally.

  Fox had to talk about the perfect game in order to keep fans from changing the channel in an 8-0 game.

  I believe that jinx has been broken long ago by TV announcers. I remember seeing David Cone's no-hitter and it was all they could talk about after the 5th inning.
