Okay...I am a diary neophyte so please go easy on me.....
I have decided that Kerry/Edwards is going to win on November 2nd. I do not think it will be contested. I think the turnout will be overwhelming and that the "pundits" will be scratching their collective heads for days. This does NOT MEAN that I will not conitnue writing letters, making calls etc. but it has lead me to the next stage of thought which is: How will our fearless leaders (john and john) clean up the colossal mess that the Bushies are going to leave behind?
I do think our country is divided as never before. I think many people are polarized and in order to avoid what happened with the Clinton's we need to make peace within the electorate as soon as possible!
Now this is a very simple suggestion to a complicated problem but I think our guys should emabark on a "Unity Tour" of sorts.
I am a Gerogia resident and as a result Kerry did not come to the state once during the campaign. (Edwards has been here but rarely.) I understand this-time is money and they have to focus on the "swing states". But I think it is important for Kerry to acknowlede that even though states did not support him he needs their help to clean things up.
So, I think they should announce a tour to visit every "Red State" in the country. I know he will be very busy selecting his cabinet etc. but I think the symbolism of this tour would be important. I think it should be supported by the DNC and I think they should target those who supported Bush. Now I know the fundies and other right wing nuts won;t come, but there may be some who would like to see our new President and learn more about him. I also think it is important for him to involve the House and Seante members from that state no matter what party they are in. I think he will inherit an even Senate and his judicial appointments etc will go through easier with a little statesmanship!
I think this would be a direct departure from the way Bush/Rove handled things. They lost a close election and immediately took the country to the Right. I think Kerry and the Dems will benefit a lot MORE (and so will our country) if he can show he is serious about compromising and reaching out to everyone.
We are going to face so many problems in Kerry's first 4 years and I sincerely think he can get more accomplished if a majority of the electorate stands behind him. EVEN IF they made the mistake of not voting for him!
