What are you doing to help Kerry win?

Fri Oct 15, 2004 at 09:35:56 AM PDT

We've had so many diaries in the past 24 hours lamenting the (supposed) state of the race, and predicting doom for the Kerry campaign. I've been here since November of last year, and I can't recall any single day that was as nervous and negative as today.

In an effort to turn that around, please post here what you are doing between now and election day to help Kerry win.

I live in a deep red state, but I will be spending time calling Kerry volunteers, asking them to help GOTV in swing states, through the Phone Corps at johnkerry.com. I'll also be contributing $25 a week to the DNC until November 2, possibly more. I plan to phone bank the final weekend before election day, both here in Travis County where we're expecting a heavy Dem turnout, and to swing-state voters.

I will early vote so that I can phone bank on Election Day and drive people to the polls. What are you doing to ensure a Kerry victory on November 2?

I live in New Orlans. Louisiana is a "Pink" state that I believe has the potiential for going blue. I'm working with a grassroots group. We organized a voter registration second line. check it out http://english.ohmynews.com/articleview/article_view.asp?menu=c10400&no=189465&rel_no=1

During the last week of voter registration we collected almost 1400 voter registrations by tabling at local grocery stores. Our "supermarket sweep" was a great success.

Saturday we're going to give away thousands of Kerry pins at the Voodoo Music Festival. We're also organizing an absentee balloting drive for those who have trouble getting to the polls. Next we're making arrangements for transportation on election day to help get people to the polls!

This is so exciting! Louisiana Loves Kerry

I'm pretty much done with donating money (I think), but I'll be donating plenty of time in the next 18 days. Those Kerry voters WILL be counted!

    thanks for this diary

  •  it's now or never (none / 0)

    • Phone bank final weekend before election day.
    • Donating and encouraging friends to donate.
    • Use knowledge of local races gleaned from frequent dailykos reading to influence friends and acquaintances to support those candidates in those areas (go Ginny!).
    • A strange tactic: my web profiles have this message: "I'm voting for Kerry/Edwards.  If you're not or undecided, feel free to email or message me for an intelligent discussion on the election." I've had some interesting, sometimes productive conversations and shed light on issues.
    • Go roller skating with my Libertarian cousin with the ulterior motive of convincing him to vote Kerry.
    • Meditate and pray.  A lot.
  •  I'll be canvassing my precinct. . . (none / 0)

. . .this weekend and Halloween weekend.  (Unfortunately, my kid sister picked the intervening weekend for her wedding at the other end of the country, so I'll be missing two days!).

I have yard signs up for Kerry, Murray and McDermott, and I'll be asking my neighbors who live out on the main street to put some up, too.

I'm trying to visit with my list of "infrequent" voters, and to at least leave literature with all my "ongoing absentee" voters this weekend, since the absentee ballots have just hit.

I have the pleasant task of simply reminding everyone in my precinct to vote.  Since we're over 75% Democratic here, I've been told that I don't have to spend quite as much energy on voter ID, since if I can turn everybody out, we'll still gain.

The district I live in is so non-Republican that several local races have no Republican candidate at all! Our focus is definitely set on the statewide and national level.

  •  OPTIMISM should be practiced AT ALL TIMES. (none / 0)

I've been reading KOS for the last few weeks, because I'm out of work on sick leave and need something to keep me from working in my garden/yard.

In the last few weeks, I too am tired of the dooms day type post.  Come on... stop the maddness!  You are not helping the cause.

I am a certified hypnotherapist and know that the best way to create what it is that you want in your life is to focus on the outcome.  Be clear with what it is that you want.  So much so, that you FEEL it as truth - this is when your desire is ready to manifest.

    Future generation steps:

First, think about what it is that you want (we all want) - Kerry being elected president on Nov. 2.

Second, hold this in your thoughts.  See it.  Believe it to be true.  Focus.  Focus.  Focus.  FEEL IT as TRUTH.

Third, start to say the mantra, PRESIDENT KERRY, PRESIDENT KERRY, PRESIDENT KERRY.  Say this out loud so that your subconscious mind hears it.  Our subconscious mind hears everything we say, that's why it's so important to be careful of the words you speak.  They hold power.

OPTIMISM should be practiced AT ALL TIMES.

The way our minds work is, what ever we keep hearing repeatedly, we believe and then it becomes our reality.

OPTIMISM should be practiced AT ALL TIMES.

All this media hoopla - it's brainwashing the American public.  Use this same principle to your benefit, counter act it with the power of your own self!

OPTIMISM should be practiced AT ALL TIMES.

Why feed into the crap that you hear on the news or read some place?  There's a way to counter act it - USE YOUR OWN MINDS.

OPTIMISM should be practiced AT ALL TIMES.

The power of our minds is incredible.  It's our greatest gift.  Do all that you can to feed positive and optimistic images/attitudes into your mind.  It will create the reality that you expect.

Never give up.  As soon as you give up, you have failed.  Be strong.  Hold your conviction.  Believe.  Know it to be true.  Never take your "eye off the ball."

Whatever we believe to be true is true.  For me, my truth is...

PRESIDENT KERRY, PRESIDENT KERRY, PRESIDENT KERRY!!!

  •  Hopefully enough (none / 0)

I am organizing the volunteer drivers to get voters who need a ride to the poll.  I will work election day at a polling precinct holding signs and handing out info.  I have adopted a precinct and I am calling all Dems in that precinct getting them to vote.

So far we have very few takers on the free ride.  That should change though, as we have many elderly in this area.  I am in NC in Polk county which went almost 2-1 for Bush in 2000.  In 2000 there were 8200 total ballots cast.  Right now we have 6000 registered Dems.  If we can touch base with every one of them and get them to vote we can win even this red county in a red state.  The phone calling is going great.  These Dems are glad to hear a friendly voice and are eager to vote W out.
