You may have missed this one:
NE 2nd tightens to a
3 point race...
In a district that was supposed to be an easy reelection, rubberstamp Repub. Lee Terry has taken a major drop in the polls once Superstar fundraiser Nancy Thompson started throwing a little bit of her weight around. He's already broken his
promise not to go negative, and is now requesting help from the RNCC- which he'll probably get. Even if he doesn't, he has a
5 to 2 on hand advantage , but that might not be enough. Thompson has proven she can compete with half the resources, and while it is 5 to 2, it was 5 to 1 before she sent out an email to her supporters, just a few days ago, asking for one more donation.
She playing basketball against him with her hands tied behind her back, and still making it a tight game...
Update [2004-10-15 8:3:31 by johnowens2]: There's one more card up Nancy's sleave. Omaha will vote for the first time in 20 years on gambling. With millions in advertising about the issue, it's expected to drive up turnout in our miserably low turn-out state. Everyone involved knows this is going to help her win.

-(And Take The Poll...)-
Nancy Thompson, a multi-term State Senator from the Republican half of the CD, was supposed to lose by 30-40 points against Terry like his last two challengers did. But his 98% voting with DeLay has made him symbol of the "me-too" extremist right wing, and Nancy, knowing the odds were stacked against her, couldn't help but try to take him on.
She's a great speaker, and while just as working-class as most readers of Daily Kos, she's been able to raise money like no other Democratic Chalenger has in Omaha. She started out with the same
30 point "insurmountable" deficit; but with that money,
and this must-watch add, she's made this a race to watch.
Most people in Nebraska have their eyes on the Conneally v. Fortenberry race to take over the seat being left empty in Nebraska's 1st, so there's really no money left in the state. All my analysis above is essentially unbiased. But here at the end of the diary I am going to make a pitch to anyone out there. She's an outstanding woman running an outstanding race, and with the resources she will win.
Terry's declines in the polls to well under 50% have made that assured. And since Democrats have a 47% to 43% voter registration advantage, the only thing that can stop her is a 500,000 dollar negative blitz against her from Terry...which is what we're all bracing for. He's already started it with this downright
evil and misleading add which claims she voted for millions in taxes as a Liberal Senator (sound familiar?)!
