Ground Game - Battleground Nevada

Sat Oct 16, 2004 at 09:36:09 PM PDT

Round One:  Early (in person) voting opened in Nevada today.  Our ground effort looks decent.  The Registar's (Washoe County) office had a 90 Minute line all day long.  Mostly the dedicated and those who will be elsewhere on Nov. 2.

From those waiting in line, it looked like there were a fair amount of Kerry Supporters there to vote.  The county registar was the only place open for early voting today.

Unofficial Estimates from those involved think that about 800 people were able to vote today.  Starting Monday, other polling places open up across the county.

Looks like we carried round one.  However, everyone here expects a hard Wingnut counterpunch starting Monday.  They have always seemed to be better with the mail in vote too.  It's going to be a long couple of weeks....

Anyone nearby who wants to help out, just call the organization of your choice.  We still need the help.

What a Marathon!

Anyone know what's happening in the South (Las Vegas)?

  •  We need these anecdotal stories (none / 0)

These are the stories that will pump us up for the remaining 2 weeks. It is never easy to know if they mean anything, but their effect is always useful. They keep us motivated and pushing to turnout even more. Thanks for the post.

  •  Is Washoe County GOP stronghold? (none / 0)

  •  Things seem calm.... not a lot of vandalism (none / 0)

of Kerry/Edwards signs... a few cases of vehicles with K/E stuff being vandalized in casino parkinglots... but that could be from out-of-towners being jackasses because they are in and out as tourists. From what I see in southern Nevada, this state is going to be in play for Kerry. No evidence of a runaway Bush wave, but the Bushies are a little more demonstrative of their stuff so somebody passing through might overstate Bush support here.

    The Secret that is Not-So-Secret?

Bush did very little to diffuse the Yucca flats issue in the Henderson to Las Vegas area. Its festering in peoples guts.

One funny thing: There really aren't a lot of either Kerry/Edwards or Bush/Cheney large banners staying up in fixed places. In fact, in a lot of sign hotspots, there are TONS of local candidate signs and very little national signage.

  •  in the South (none / 0)

There are several hundred volunteers out in the streets today canvassing identified Kerry supporters to vote early. The NSDP rented 60 vans and mobilized at least 10 teams in my AD, plus ACT had at least 60 volunteers out.

As for turnout, hard to say; I voted at Clark County Government Center just before closing and was the only voter there.

But we'll know tomorrow morning when the Secy of State's office posts numbers of voters by county.

  •  Anyone want to phone bank virtually (none / 0)
