A Vietnam veteran is suing Carlton Sherwood and the makers of 'Stolen Honor,' for libel, pointing out the obvious fact that the film is filled with malicious lies. The person suing is not a public figure, but rather a private citizen, so he actually may have a decent chance of prevailing. The person suing also hints that he will sue Sinclair if it ends up showing the movie on its 62 channels:
Campbell's lawyer also threatened legal action against the Sinclair Broadcast Group, an owner of 62 television stations that has announced that it intends to pre-empt regular program to broadcast "Stolen Honor" two weeks before the election.
I hope investors take note that Sinclair is needlessly exposing itself to an expensive libel lawsuit that could result in a substantial money judgment against it. This looks like another good reason to sell Sinclair stock.
Update [2004-10-18 12:39:19 by pontificator]: Now that this diary has hit the recommended list, I'm going to encourage everyone to go after the Sinclair advertisers. That's where the real vulnerability is. If you are in a local Sinclair market, go to the drop down menu on the linked page and drop down to your local market, and then start calling local advertisers. Make it clear you know exactly who they are and that you're not shooting blanks -- you plan to act on the boycott, and get others to join. Be polite though -- an impolite or overheated call will turn people off. Go do it!
Update [2004-10-18 17:18:49 by pontificator]: The boycott appears to be working! Don't let up now -- keep calling and writing those emails!!!
Shares of the controversial Sinclair Broadcasting Group slipped almost 8 percent Monday in the aftermath of the political firestorm that the company created last week.
Sinclair's stock (SBGI) fell 55 cents to $6.49.
The shares dropped amid fresh concerns on Wall Street, with analysts fretting over what looms as a loss of advertising revenue for Sinclair. Some securities analysts, who demanded not to be quoted on record, said that they're concerned about the potential development.
