Farm Groups Blast Bush

Fri Oct 22, 2004 at 09:56:03 AM PDT

I found this guest commentary in a farmer tabloid called The Prairie Star. It's from the CEO of the American Corn Growers Association. (It appears next to another editorial that seeks legislation to help exterminate "menacing and savage coyotes," so this is not a publication that simply caters to lefty organic types.) Seems to me Kerry would look pretty good as he swings through Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri with one of these guys on stage in their coveralls and John Deere hats.

Here's the link: http://www.theprairiestar.com/articles/2004/10/20/ag_news/opinion/opinion03.txt

Under the headline "President Bush and House leaders abandoning farm disaster victims," Larry Mitchell, ACGA CEO, says, "Corn prices have fallen below $1.50 per bushel in parts of the Midwest. Energy prices are at an all-time high this harvest season. And there is no leadership from this administration to advance an adequate disaster bill to assist farm families victimized by natural disasters.

"Farmers need to ask if it would be easier to get disaster assistance if it was administered through a no-bid contract with Halliburton than it is to get the leadership required to get real disaster assistance passed by Congress and enacted by President Bush. But what farmers really need to be asking is if they can afford another four years of the current leadership in Washington."

He claims there are 26 other garm groups that are with him on the issue.

My first post and I don't really understand how all this blog stuff works, but....
