I run an email group comprised of people I used to attend a church with.  There are a few wingnuts that regularly send republican propoganda in the form of chain emails.  The group is mixed enought that these are worth refuting.  I received a doozy today and it doesn't show up in snopes or breakthechain.

If anyone happens to have any factoids filed away to refute some or all of this, I would love to refute it.

CAN YOU NAME THIS COUNTRY?

*709,000 REGULAR (ACTIVE DUTY) PERSONNEL.
*293,000 RESERVE TROOPS.
*EIGHT STANDING ARMY DIVISIONS.
*20 AIR FORCE AND NAVY AIR WINGS WITH 2,000 COMBAT AIRCRAFT
*232 STRATEGIC BOMBERS.
*19 STRATEGIC BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBMARINES WITH 3,114 NUCLEAR WARHEADS ON  232 MISSILES.
*500 ICBMs WITH 1,950 WARHEADS.
*FOUR AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AND 121 SURFACE COMBAT SHIPS AND SUBMARINES PLUS
*ALL THE SUPPORT BASES, SHIPYARDS, AND LOGISTICAL ASSETS NEEDED TO
SUSTAIN SUCH A  NAVAL FORCE.

IS THIS COUNTRY- RUSSIA? NO... CHINA? NO... GREAT BRITAIN? NO... FRANCE? WRONG AGAIN... MUST BE THE USA ? STILL WRONG (SORT OF)...
GIVE UP?

THESE ARE THE AMERICAN MILITARY FORCES THAT WERE ELIMINATED  DURING THE  ADMINISTRATION OF BILL CLINTON AND AL GORE.

AND [their elimination] was 100% SUPPORTED BY JOHN KERRY
(THESE HE DID VOTE ON) SLEEP WELL!

This is not a new message, but a reminder of why we now have
over-deployed our National Guard and Reserve Units.

HE SAID CHECK THE RECORD...
Sen. John Kerry, Democrat from Massachusetts says he is the   strongest

Presidential Candidate on National Defense !  He said to check the record!!!!

We Did !   Here is what we learned:

He voted to kill the Bradley Fighting Vehicle
He voted to kill the M-1 Abrams Tank
He voted to kill every Aircraft carrier laid down from 1988
He voted to kill the Aegis anti aircraft system
He voted to Kill the F-15 strike eagle
He voted to Kill the Block 60 F-16
He voted to Kill the P-3 Orion upgrade
He voted to Kill the B-1
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the Patriot anti Missile system
He voted to Kill the FA-18
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the F117

He voted to kill every military appropriation for the development and
deployment of every weapons systems since 1988,including a bill for
battle armor for our troops.

It is most likely, with Sen. John Kerry as President and Commander in
Chief of our Armed Services, that they will cease to function making it
impossible for our country to protect itself.

John Kerry voted to kill all anti-terrorism activities of each and every
agency of the U.S. Government.

He voted to cut the funding of the FBI by 60%.
He voted to cut the funding for the CIA by 80%.
He voted to cut the funding for the NSA by 80%.

THEN - and this is abhorrent to almost every American Voter,
Democrat, Republican or Independent - he voted to increase OUR
funding for U.N operations by 800%!  Ask yourself Is THIS the person you
want as President of these United States providing for the Common
Defense of the Nation And be the Leader of the Free World ?

Please pass this on...  Voters need to know!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?

    1. Clinton spent MORE on the military than George HW Bush had appropriated in projected spending bills

    2. It wasn't only Kerry that supported cutting the military, the entire Congress did (remember, this passed through a REPUBLICAN Congress)

    3. The votes to cut spending on those weapons programs came from votes against 3 defense appropriation bills which Kerry voted against for other reasons.  He has more than made up for those votes against by dozens of votes in favor of those same programs in other appropriation bills.  This is just an instance of nit-picking a bill here and a bill there instead of looking at the whole picture.

    4. We keep hearing about Kerry voting to cut intellegency by $6 billion.  First, that vote was to cut out an increase in military funding for the future (ie, keep funding the same), was $1 billion over 6 years, and did not touch the CIA, NSA, or FBI to my knowledge.

I did a search for the claim that Kerry voted to cut NSA funding by 80% etc., and found no cites of any votes to show as evidence for this, and there is a very good reason...I found the source of the "80% cut of NSA, etc." - the one and only Ann Coulter.  In fact this entire email is cut out from a column she once wrote.

I did find a vote where Kerry voted to cut FBI funding by a measly $80 million, which is likely somewhere around 1% of their total budget, if that.

    5) Unless you're anti-UN, I don't see anything wrong with voting to increase spending for the UN. That means you approve of the UN's goal, not that you want to be subservient to them.

If Bush wont take blame for failed intellegence, and it's not the CIA's fault...then whose fault is it?

I would think this would be obvious, but i meant intellegence funding.  It appears like I need to spend my intellegence spending budget lol.

Just ask them to identify the names of the bills and the dates of the votes. If they can't, then they're liars - all that information is in the public record.

she is the source of this garbage.  Of course that means there probably were never votes on them.
