From the president's website:
50,000 turn out to support President Bush and the Republican ticket at a Jacksonville, FL rally
From "First Coast News" (A website for two local TV stations)
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- President Bush spoke to a crowd of nearly 30-thousand people at Alltel Stadium this afternoon.
Knight-Ridder's take:
He ended the day with a massive rally in Jacksonville, where some 30,000 people turned out to see the president at Alltel Stadium, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars football team.
The most generous media estimate, from the Jacksonville paper:
About 35,000 to 40,000 turned out for President Bush's last-week push for votes in Jacksonville, a day after Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. John Edwards visited Metropolitan Park and a day before former Vice President Al Gore is expected in town.
The least generous media estimate was by Jacksonville's News4:
Hundreds of supporters gathered at Alltel Stadium Saturday to hear incumbent candidate President George W. Bush speak on the last leg of his campaign tour through Florida.
Look, 30,000 is a lot of people for a political rally. Even the highest report of 40,000 is crazy large. So, why do they feel the need to inflate the numbers? My guess is the Bushies can no longer stop themselves from lying.
