A long day spent lit-dropping in a very Dem-leaning precinct--2-1 for Gore in 2000--reaffirms my opinion Virginia could shock the pundits on election night. (Oh, how I'd love to watch Brit Hume and Fred Barnes take a bite of that shit-sandwich on live television.)
Granted, I was in deep blue territory, but the yardsigns and bumper stickers were running 25 or 30 to 1 for Kerry. And this is not, as our president would say, an exaggeration. Truly amazing--and a snapshot of the intensity of anti-Bush feeling around here.
I know some people on DKos look down on using yardsigns and bumper stickers as a guage of public opinion, but I think it's a legitimate measure. A sign stuck alongside a highway--sure, who cares. But for someone to put a sign in their front yard or a sticker on their car, for many that's a personal endorsement and a strong statement of beliefs.
What are people from elsewhere in Virginia seeing? Particularly in GOP areas like Henrico County, VA Beach, Shenandoah, etc?
