Talk about shock and awe! I am ecstatic and excited to say that our local rag, the Reno Gazette-Journal, has endorsed Sen. Kerry! For the past two months I doubted they would endorse him, and I was ready to cancel my subscription with a note about their inability to rationally extract the truth from the BushCo hype. Much of their press I saw as being pro Bush. It was only after the rally here Friday for Sen. Kerry that I noted a change in their attitude; Saturday's paper was loaded with pro-Kerry interviews, articles and pictures.
Speaking about the rally, 12,500 young, old and in between filled the Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada at Reno (AKA UNR). We knowingly allowed our vehicle to be ticketed as we knew we'd never get to park legally. It was worth the $15.00 which I will gladly pay the city. Apparently, there were only about two dozen pro-Bush demonstrators. It was great when individuals in their 50s-60s in the crowd yelled to them why they weren't in Iraq fighting the war they're in favor of? .. talkin' 'bout my generation ... The speech by Sen. Kerry was electrifying. He was tremendous. He brought a feeling of hope and I know when he is elected, he will pull this country out of BushCo's quagmires - all of them. It won't be pretty but if anyone can do it, he can.
We are, indeed, a swing state. Bush lied about using sound science to approve Yucca Mt. - still gets my goat - and Sen. Kerry has promised, "not on my watch." He also brought up the fact that the nuclear waste will travel through 44 states, near homes and schools, so it is not just a Nevada issue. Thankfully something intelligent on the subject.
I'm aiming my new letter to the editor to undecideds and will be quoting facts about the administration that most people who do not follow the news closely, will have to ponder. I've decided to take a different tact as the things I've submitted previously were probably too radical (like calling anyone who votes for Bush a moron). I begged them to reprint Thomas L. Friedman's 10/14 NY Times OP-ED on BushCo's fear-mongering since 9/11 (I saw a personal quote here on Kos using parts of it) - to no avail. You can find it at NYTimes.com. If you want a good daily read, the NY Times will auto-email you the headline articles and opinions daily. (As will the Washington Post, but the Times is better.)
I hope you all enjoy your day! Go Kerry-Edwards!
