US Rep. Ron Paul

Fri Oct 29, 2004 at 10:49:20 AM PDT

Ron Paul represents the 14th District in Texas, and unfortunately he's uncontested in this race.  I looked over the sample ballot, and there doesn't even seem to be an area where you can write-in a candidate.  I used to be in the 9th District with Rep. Nick Lampson, but with DeLay's redistricting, I'm forced into Ron Paul.
Here are just a few of his illustrious accomplishments...
He sponsored bills that:
* the United States should not rejoin the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
*all United States Armed Forces should be withdrawn from South Korea and the United States should end its defense guarantee of South Korea
*the United States military should not become involved in the Liberian civil war, either alone or as part of a United Nations peacekeeping
*an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to deny United States citizenship to individuals born in the United States to parents who are neither United States citizens nor persons who owe permanent allegiance to the United States.
*end membership of the United States in the United Nations.
*the inferior courts of the United States do not have jurisdiction to hear abortion-related cases.
*repeal the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. (Motor-Voter)

That's it... I'm running in 2006.  I don't even care that no one knows who I am, and that I have no money.

  •  Are you electronic voting? (none / 0)

If so, I noticed that you have to get help from a poll worker if you want to register a write in.

At any rate, you should be able to get a write in option at the poll itself.

I suppose at the least you could skip that race rather than endorse the incumbent.

Before you win, you have to fight. Come fight along with us at TexasKaos.

  •  Good old isolationism (none / 0)

Sure, he's an isolationist all right :)

But that also means he has steadfastly opposed things like the US invasion of Iraq. He's also voted against things like the patriot act and other Bush-y things that go against his 18th century ideals.

In fact he has voted against a large part of the GOP agenda more consistently than many Democrats.

Good luck if you're running, though. We need more Kos-people in Congress :)

  •  Ron Paul is useful (none / 0)

Ron Paul was the Libertarian candidate for president before joining the GOP so he could get elected to Congress.  He does not hesitate to attack the GOP, neoconservatives in particular, and IIRC he voted against the Iraq war.  Sorry you got redistricted, but you could do alot worse, particularly in Texas.

You have the power to change America. Yes. We. Can.

  •  i voted for Ron Paul! (none / 0)

Back when he was the Libertarian candidate for preznit, that is.

He's interesting in that flaky right-wing libertarian way.  At least he's honest and thoughtful, even when he's wrong.

W was elected to protect Them from Us.
