With word tonight from MyDD of possible indictments in the
Akron area voter suppression efforts come new questions about who's driving these activities, at least at the local level.
GOP challenger Barbara Miller found herself in the hot seat, and under questioning from Summit County Board of Elections member Russell Pry, dropped the dime on one Jim Simon.
So who's Jim Simon?
According to the transcript, he's an attorney and an official with the Summit County GOP.
MR. PRY: Do you have any personal knowledge as we stand here today that Ms. Herrold does not live at the address at 238 30th Street Northwest?
MS. MILLER: Only that which was my impression; that their mail had not been able to be delivered.
MR. PRY: And who gave you that impression?
MS. MILLER: Attorney Jim Simon.
MR. PRY: And what did --
MS. MILLER: He's an officer of the party.
MR. PRY: An officer of which party?
MS. MILLER: Republican party.
What kind of officer? And what's he do for a day job? Why, he's the "treasurer of the Summit County Republican Party Central Committee and top official in the county engineer's office".
A top official in the county engineer's office? What kind of top official? How about Director of Administration/Support Services?
So, what's a nice attorney like Jim doing involved in electoral fraud? Why would he counsel people to fraudulently swear out challenges? Does the Ohio State Bar Association know about this? Might Catherine Ann Herrold, one of the intended victims of this fraud, want to tell them about it?
Might it also be worth discussing the case with Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy (D)? Or might his efforts to look into this kind of disreputable conduct by a County employee be thwarted by County Engineer Greg Bachman (R)?
One can only wonder.
