This thread is for discussions related to getting the job done in New Mexico.
1) NM needs your help; deserves your help; welcomes your help.
As a Kossack, you know that the 2000 vote differential was 366 votes; that NM polls have been slipping in the wrong direction during the last week; even that King George himself is coming to NM Monday, so the other side is pushing harder. So its important for us to redouble our NM efforts.
- Consider travelling here; if you can't, then phonebank from where you are.

4) We're doing really well up north, but there is plenty of unexploited opportunity in the south. Dona Ana county (Las Cruces area) is the 3rd largest population center in the state; approx 10% more votes for Gore than Bush in 2000:
Dona Ana, 111 precincts (out of 1486 in NM):
Gore: 23,912 votes
Bush: 21,263 votes
2000:
100 % of New Mexico 's precincts reporting Electoral Votes: 5
Party Count %
Al Gore (Winner) Dem 286,565 48
George W. Bush GOP 286,079 48
Ralph Nader Grn 21,243 4
Harry Browne Lib 2,065 0
Pat Buchanan RP 1,416 0
John Hagelin NLP 362 0
Howard Phillips CST 344 0
- El Paso is heavily for Kerry (and one of the most Democratic strongholds in TX). It's only half hour from Las Cruces; but from where I'm sitting now on the west side of El Paso, Sunland Park NM is 5 minutes away. Plenty of Kerry voters on both sides of the state line; but only the NM ones will make any difference.
- Realize that the shrub claims "west Texas" as his home (another misleading statement and a laugh by ELP standards; we call them oily folks the "panhandlers"). But Laura Bush's best friend was a cheerleader at my high school, and they have lots of connections in this area. Just one more aspect of their ability to pull behind-the-scenes surprises. We must be vigilant, and redouble our efforts.
- Another place to look for dirty tricks of GOP vote inflation: San Juan county (NW NM). Goopers told their audiences that they cant win NM without winning San Juan.
- NM is really spread out, so we really can use the extra help on the ground, on the phone, and via email. Besides helping us as a GOTV volunteer, you can help us recruit more volunteers via your own phone & email contacts.
Please see the email+phone strategy I posted on an earlier diary:

9) As soon as I finish launching this diary, I'm off to Anthony NM (straddles the state line, nmidway between ELP & Las Cruces) for GOTV phoning & canvassing. I'll be offline most of the time till election nite, so please help me keep this thread going by gathering relevant materials and posting here, and also posting links to NM-related entries elsewhere within dKos.
