VOLUNTEER your old computer for Kerry

Mon Oct 04, 2004 at 01:53:07 PM PDT

Just a FYI that if you live in a swing state, or in an area with a competitive race, there's a good chance that your local Kerry (or whoever) office has a "wish list" that includes computers (as well as other more mundane stuff).  There's a lot of data entry work to be done, and it's wildly inefficient for them to purchase computers when they'll be done with them in a month.
So if you have an old clunker sitting around because it has some good files, get off your butt, put the files on the new computer, and call your local campaign HQ to see if they can use it.

I got a friend in NH to donate his computer yesterday morning, by yesterday afternoon it was busily at work!

The best part is that once the campaign is over you get your machine back.

    •  Walk in to your local HQ (none / 0)

Donating is a great way to volunteer for people who have no time to volunteer. When I was in NH during the primaries, we always were breaking things and having to make runs to Home Depot or Office Max. Just having backups around really makes things run more efficiently. And not just computers. Phones, printers, fax machines, and always, always food.

Go here to find the Kerry HQ in a lot of states.  If you call them, they can no doubt get you the contact information of the HQ nearest to you if they're not close and/or don't need the equipment.

A number of us here in Seattle got together for a drive to get computer equipment donations a few months back, and it was pretty successful in getting the campaign a lot of what they needed. But as they ramp up for the final month, more volunteers means more computer demands.

So if anyone in the Seattle/Puget Sound area has equipment to donate, you can find a donation form and instructions here.
