Star Wars Analogies..yes I'm a nerd

Thu Oct 07, 2004 at 08:25:01 AM PDT

So on a drunken binge, a friend and I came up with what would probably be way too many Star Wars analogies for politics.  Let go for a second your ideas of the movies and how good each was in respect to another, and try to read this in the context of the story.

Click extended entry for the meat and potatoes.

A New Hope = Bill Clinton
Empire Strikes Back = Bush 2

This obviously makes Democrats JEDI and the GOP is the Sith or darkside for non nerds.

Han Solo = The Democratic party, frozen in carbonite at the end of Empire

Luke Skywalker = John Kerry, key to the Return of the Jedi

Jabba the Hut = Ralph Nader, requesting just dues from the democratic party.

Darth Vader = Zell Miller, lured to the darkside.

Jar Jar Binks = Joe Leibermann, annoying, partly responsible for the fall of the republic.

Obi Wan = Jimmy Carter, an old school Jedi who is in the background helping the winning team

Yoda = James Carville, training young Skywalker to be a successful Jedi

Emperor Palapatine = Dick Cheney, pulling the strings

Stormtrooper = W, figurehead

Mace Windu = Howard Dean, kicks ass

The force = actual will of american public

Boba Fett = Swift Boat vets.  Land a blow, but has little long term value.  If rumors are true, he kills Mace Windu, so this could also be the Iowa scream.

Chewbacca = 527s, helping Han Solo (The democratic party)

Darth Maul = Reagan

Count Dooku = Mondale

Luke's Uncle = Dukakis

I'm sure there could be many more connections made.  Also I know this would make Zell Miller the father of John Kerry but I couldn't let Vader be unassigned.

  •  I prefer characters as characters (none / 0)

Plus, I love games, so here's my attempt:

Jabba the Hut = SCOTUS.  Renders judgement on, and takes down, Gore (Han Solo).

Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader = Colin Powell, Vietnam (Clone) War fighter.  Once almost a jedi, lured fully to the dark side by the Sith.

Luke Skywalker = John Kerry, veteran of the Vietnam (Clone) Wars, key to the Return of the Jedi

Jar Jar Binks = Joe Leibermann, annoying, partly responsible for the fall of the republic.

Obi Wan = Jimmy Carter, an old school Jedi who is in the background helping the winning team

Yoda = Bill Clinton.  Defeats Count Dooku (Reagan) in battle, but loses the war.

Emperor Palapatine = Dick Cheney, pulling the strings and shooting lightning from his fingertips.

Stormtrooper = George W Bush, figurehead and cloned many times over in the form of wingnut stormtroopers.

Mace Windu = Howard Dean, a bad M.F.er who wins on style and plays a deceptively major role

The force = the partizan divide of the American Public

Boba Fett = the SCLM.  Responsible for both the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth bullshit and for killing off Dean (Mace Windu).

Darth Maul = Reagan.  Pops in for a significant segment, growls a lot, looks mean, does a ton of damage then is promptly written out of the script, to be remembered only as a cool action figurine.

Count Dooku = George H.W. Bush.  pwned by Clinton.

    Luke's Uncle = Dukakis.

Han Solo = Al Gore, taken captive by Jabba the Hutt

Chewbacca = John Edwards.  Had a chance of trying for the top job, as Gore (Han Solo's) ended up doing in 2000.  Ends up being passed over in favour of Gore (Han Solo) for the 2000 job.  After Gore (Han) is taken down by SCOTUS (Jabba), joins the Kerry (Skywalker) campaign.  Plus, he's cute and cuddly.

I debated Edwards as one of the robots.

      The rebel alliance = Kossacks

What we have to remember about Dooku if I have my story straight is that he was actually on the side of good, though things are switchy in the new trilogy.

  •  Kinda liked the rings analogy better (none / 0)

Especially the return of the king....last scenes made me tear up as I thought about the restoration of a worthy American king instead of the false king.  Plus they're the Ork, you know that.

James Webb is a bigot. And an uber hawk. Stephanie Herseth is a bigot. Harold Ford, Jr. is a bigot. And so are those who support them.
