    •  Yes! (none / 0)

Just do a search for 'American Made' and 'Union Made' whenever you want to buy clothes, especially the more expensive stuff that you don't have to buy very often.

For instance, I'm wearing a pair of 'Diamond Cut Jeans' right now.  Some of the stuff is made in Mexico, but I found out you could specify that you wanted union & American made.  The jeans are very comfy.

My Tom Binn bag rocks, too.  It's 100x more comfortable than my Land's End bag.  And I'm a grad student: have to carry books everywhere, so it's getting serious usage.

    •  pretty funny, but sad, too (none / 0)

I just e-mailed this to my daughter who lives in Paris.  She just got married, and I met her French in-laws for the first time this summer when my husband and I went to Brittany for a wedding celebration.  We made it clear that we can't be held responsible for Bush being our President.  Everyone there was hoping so much for a Kerry victory, and proudly spoke of his cousin who is mayor of a city near where they live. They also knew that this fact couldn't be spoken about very openly, for fear that it would hurt Kerry's chances.
    •  It was in a laptop case (none / 0)

I saw this article serveral months ago on Boing Boing, where it was a Canadian user who had noticed it in his new laptop bag. Unfortunately, I can't remember if the name of the manufacturer/model was released (probably not, due to concerns of retribution).

This post is best understood if you look at the fnords first.

On another note - I am re-watching the VP debates.  The Kerry campaign needs a ad that shows Edwards hammering Cheney on his voting record and Cheney responding with "I think the record speaks for himself".

but... this isn't exactly new. It has been making the rounds for a while.

Snopes says the company itself claims the message was just intended to poke fun at its own company president; customers in France tended to assume it was about Chirac. But most people have figured it means Bush.

    •  T-shirt? (none / 0)

I was wondering what kind of garment this was; it looks like a real pain in the neck to keep clean. What's it made of and why is it so fragile?

I thought being able to throw t-shirts into the washer and dryer with little thought or worry was one of their selling points. But I've never understood designer blue jeans either.

      •  They actually (none / 0)

made a t-shirt with the logo on the front. I bought two. The profits from the shirt went to a home for disabled war veterans, which royally pissed the freepers off, because a boycott turned them into veteran-hating scumbags instead of just regular scumbags.

That's what the tag is for. The T-shirts were made with the message on the front of the shirt, with profit from the T-shirts going to a good cause (I forget what it is -- bought my bag several months ago). I bought the cafe bag and use it as a purse. Tough as nails, and good looking, too.
    •  too late to buy one (none / 0)

I just followed the link, and thought I might buy a t-shirt, but it occurred to me that by the time I'd get it, our President would be President Kerry, and then I wouldn't want to wear such a shirt.  Seems like this has been around a while.  Too bad I didn't know about it sooner.

  •  "We did not vote for him" (none / 0)

At least we have been able to take some refuge in the knowledge that Gore Got More and that The Supreme Court was responsible for Bush's ascension to power.

But this time, if Bush is actually elected, we will have nowhere to hide vis a vis the world community.  No more will we be able to claim that Bush is the Accidental President and that he is really not representative of our country's values.  We will own him, fair and square.

That's exactly what I'm scared of.

    LOL  F'in' brilliant.

When I was in Europe last summer, I often wished I had a sign strapped to my forehead that said two things:

    1.  I am Canadian (this just for the sake of accuracy);

    2.  Don't conflate Americans with the Bush administration.

Of course, if you guys return him to office, it'll be more difficult to make the case.  But Blue States, don't worry; we got your back.  :-)

BTW, Blue States, if things go badly, you're still welcome to join British North America!  We could use a few more provinces.  :-)

  •  You are forcing me to repost this ! (4.00 / 2)

This from my French neighbor (not a Conehead) (none / 0)

I hope you all don't mind me sending you these
articles, but after reading certain materials, I felt to share all of these with you.
Politic is not my forte, but since Bush and his
    administration have been in power:
Tax cut on wealthy people which shorten the financial budget to help the education, health care budget, etc.
The reason going to war was to get rid of the Nuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction. Once The President did not get all the support, he changed his tactic and tells us all,the war is to liberate Iraquis from their leader Sadam Hussein the Tyran. There are so many other countries with Tyran, but guess what they have
no oil! He accuses France of helping Saddam Hussein and closing its eyes on the tyranny, but America gave Saddam (who they knew was a tyran) weapons and went to war with Iraq against Iran and knew who he was as well. We keep hearing how the employment market is doing better and better, but when I look around me I hear
and meet so, so many people that have lost their jobs in the past 3 years, and still can't get a job. I work for a phylantrope, chairman of an Hedge Fund, on board of the Nature Conservancy, on board of the Conservation for the Environment, and other Environmental associations, and I am learning how bad the environment is, and how Texas is one of the worse in air pollution. My boss happens to be Democrat, and has always been, but he receives letters and pictures
of Bush thanking him for all his contribution through the years, now how can we believe the poll saying how many supporters Bush and his administration have. He is also wealthy, but he does not mind to pay fair taxes in comparaison to the lower classes. The rest of the world is getting more and more every day a bad image of us in America, with our goverment telling every other country what they should or should
not do. That war in Iraq is bringing our image down, and I don't know if you feel the same but I am ashamed.
Anyway just wanting to share some thoughts with you all. Let's looks at fact not just talk, because every thing is easy to twist around in words. My concerns are the same I hope than all of you: health care, education, jobs, pollution and the ecology, security... but not war, and sacrifices of life.

    •  I love that site (none / 0)

But something tells me that if I were Polish I might not.  What gives?  Why are Polack jokes still funny?  I mean . . . POLAND!  HAW HAW!

Anyone have figures as to how much Polish support there was for the war back when the chips were down?  I know Britian is so often portrayed by the right as bein "our honorable allies", despite their being about 2/3 against the war.  Are we sitting around making fun of Poland while they've been having massive anti-war demonstrations in the streets?

I realize that the stupidity of Bush considering Poland to be a "major world power" like the UK or Australis is sort of the joke here . . . but then Australia is hardly a major world power, either.  I realize that country looks a lot bigger than Poland but Poland has twice as many people living within its borders.  I suppose Australia's status as an English-speaking nation gives it more clout and stuff, but still I would hardly call them a "major world power", Crocodile Hunter notwithstanding.

Hmm, now that I think about it, all we need to do is send Steve Irwin into Iraq and everything would probably work out fine.  "Crickey, these insughants ahre nasty critters, eh?  I'll just grab 'em by the neck & wrassle 'em into this heahr crocodile net . . ."

(Sorry, I can't figure out how to transcribe Australian into English properly . . .)

      •  Poland (none / 0)

I don't know about statistics, but I saw an antiwar protest in Krakow Poland last September.  It consisted of a few thousand mostly college age people.

Poland is going through a huge economic boom as they enter the EU -- many international companies are moving manufacturing there and the people are being able to buy real merchandise for the first time.  A few years ago they were known for stealing cars from Germany.  Now they are taking the German's jobs and buying their own cars.

I think they are very big on capitalism and US culture right now.  Many give the US credit for end of the cold war and their current economic boom.  They probably wouldn't mind a US military base too.

  •  IMPEACH!!! (none / 1)

The first debate exposed Bush for the vapid, vacant, arrogant, and ignorant idiot that he is.  The second debate showed us who the de facto leader of this country actually is, but also exposed him and his administration as the desperate liars they are.  We now have an official report exposing the awful truth about the attack on Iraq that WE have known for years.  The facts are plentiful and accessible, and the current occupant of the White House continues to deceive, continues to believe that WE are stupid enough to overlook.  Please tell me:  why is no one speaking of impeachment??? Why is lying about sexual indiscretions with an intern an impeachable act, but lying to the entire world in order to justify the invasion and destruction and occupation of a sovereign nation not?  If we can't depend on our representatives to demand an impeachment, why are WE not demanding it?  Shall we start?

"If you're not with us, you're against us!"  Same philosophy the Nazi's used to bully their way into power in the 30's.  This hate France thing is ridiculous.  "Freedom fries"  give me a fucking break.  Shrub thinks our allies should just follow him blindly when God instructs him to invade a country for no legitimate reason.    The Bush administration will attack anyone who disagrees with them.  There's a reason why the majority of our allies are no longer supporting us.  It's like the old saying they have in Tennessee...I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that goes, "Meet one jerk... you've met a jerk.  Meet two jerks... you've met two jerks.  Meet three jerks... you're the jerk."
