Bill O'Reilly on The Daily Show - POLL

Thu Oct 07, 2004 at 08:04:04 PM PDT

Just a reminder to all the "stoned slackers" out there that tonight's Daily Show features Bill O'Reilly, out of the Spin Zone straight to hostile territory.

Will he apologize for the stoned slacker remark?  Will he keep spewing his venom?  Will he actually tone it down and appear somewhat affable?  We shall find out soon.  What are your thoughts?

"O'Reilly Hopes for Interview With Kerry"

And Kerry is open to it.  Your thoughts?

    •  I think he should (none / 0)

Kerry can handle O'Reilly readily and anyway O'Reilly isn't likely to shout at Kerry and call him a pinhead. And he's right that it would reach a substantial audience that includes a number of undecideds and soft Bush supporters as well as some centrist Dems.
      •  But he will edit to his advantage (none / 0)

and using just the right bits and clips you can make anyone look like an idiot.
        •  I think Kerry should do it (none / 0)

Kerry is smart enough to handle himself. It would give him a chance to counter this right wing spin, and it would give him street cred for many of these Fox viewers who may want to jump ship.

I've always thought Bill Clinton should go on that show too, just to get O'Reilly to quit whining.  The Big Dog and Big John could handle O'Reilly just fine.

    •  Bad idea. OReilly's audience is 99.9% GOP (none / 0)

hacks, which is another way of saying that he has nothing to gain wasting his time with Billy boy. Kerry should however have sent one of his surrogates (maybe Dean) to be on Stern, whose audience is huge and potentially trending Dem.

      •  his audience (none / 0)

is not that solidly GOP. Yes, MOSTLY GOP, but certainly not entirely. A fair number of moderates and persuadables watch him.
        •  Count me as skeptical of the wisdom of this idea. (none / 0)

In the end it wouldn't matter much either way, but O'Reilly's viewership isn't particularly large. Kerry would score more doing Oprah or something.

      •  Exactly (none / 0)

O'Reilly is such an egomaniac.  There are tons of other media outlets for Kerry or his surrogates to go to.  I wouldn't give him an ounce of exposure.  I love it that O'Reilly is upset that Kerry went on Daily Show before the all spin zone.

    •  Utterly pointless (none / 0)

What could be gained by it? O'Reilly's viewers will never vote for Kerry, and O'Reilly would never let Kerry make his case anyway. I suppose Kerry could get into a fight with O'Reilly, but would that really help anything?
    •  Would (none / 1)

only give Fox the credibility they do not deserve yet crave so badly.
  •  They are hammering Bush and Cheney (none / 1)

Clip of Bush's speech: "I didn't pick Dick Cheney for his hair-do." (pause for laughter) "I picked him for his judgment and his experience."

John Stewart: "Sadly, his judgment and experience are identical to his hair."

    Good stuff so far.

for those without cable??? -cry- I miss TDS.

I hope they'll post this on their website--surely they will!

        •  Jon Fix (none / 0)

He showed highlights from Bush's "major policy speech" yesterday, quick to point out that Bush scammed the press into giving him a free hour.

Showed a clip with Bush explaining that Kerry will tax the rich, and then the rich will hore lawyers that will screw the little guy.

Jon: "So, since the rich are smart and get out of taxes, your solution is to overtax the hard-working little guy who is too stupid to get out of it?  vote for me, seeya later?"

Now O'Reilly's being an ass, basically.

          •  Also, My favorite quote of the night (none / 0)

Jon was talking about the new Iraq report re: no WMD, and Cheney saying it justifies the invasion.

Jon: "Some people look at a glass and say it's half full, other look at it and say it's ... a, uh, dragon."

Later, in the interview with Billy Boy, they joked about the stoned slackers thing, Jon jokingly asked for an apology, Bill replied that he "was stoned when he said it."

      •  O'Reilly's interview (so far) (none / 0)

Shilling for Bush, really happy that he got his tax cut.

Threw in a couple of jabs at Kerry, fell pretty flat with the audience.

Saying he asked Bush "tough questions." Talked about Bush being a true believer, just like any Democrat who would never say that taxing people is a bad thing.

There have been a few softballs that Stewart could have smacked down, but for some reason he's holding back.

Oh, this is good. Bush is isolated because "people are trying to kill him." Now he did say one true thing--that Bush doesn't care about outsourcing.

Ah, a "shut up" reference at the end. How cute.

You know he's going to go back to his own show and bitch about Stewart for weeks, though.

Well I watch him and I have to say he was on good behavoir tonight. Very charming. Not pro-dem but, not anti-dem either. Smart move on his part.

  •  Jon Stewart (4.00 / 2)

I really have to give him credit for tolerating a person like Bill O'Reilly, both on the Factor and TDS.  He is a stronger man than I; I would've gotten into a fight with him, I bet.
