Well, what do you think? Weigh in here. Was the city of West Memphis Arkansas or
the officer under real danger here?
I will continue to post these things and follow this issue out of self-defense, as a middle aged, not-in-terribly-great-shape person, who may be killed by one of these Non-Lethal weapons at a traffic stop while "going for" my wallet someday. These stories are always posted in the press as "funny" and "wierd" tidbits rather than the public safety issue that they really are! Take the poll.
Below the fold is my rage to date FYI.
{Please excuse the temporary repost of the original entry. I will continue to rework and refine it in the future}
This is a Taser update. You all know about the non-lethal devices. But did you know that their use and safety claims are predicated upon poor industry regulated research, not unlike the Pharmacy industry headlines you see everyday? Well, that's all beginning to see the light of day.
As a result of this bad research the number of deaths keeps growing daily. They industry doesn't really track this, nor does anyone track the near death experiences or serious injuries from the devices.
The perception of the device as "non-lethal" has lead to any number of inappropriate uses from law enforcement.
So. let's say that you're a CEO or VP with lot's of stock in Taser International and you're faced with this growing evidence and reeling from endorcements from a former candidate for the position of Director of Homeland Security, what do you do? You take the money and run!
I'm not saying there may not be a use in the future for these things, but they're clearly not ready for prime time. Any thoughts? Take the poll.
