State Electoral Trends: MA, RI, CT

Sat Oct 09, 2004 at 07:01:08 PM PDT

Continuing the series of graphs showing state electoral trends since 1960, here are the next three up: Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The graphs show how much more or less Democratic each state voted as compared to the national average; thus a +5% means that in a 50/50 national tie, the Democrat would have received 55% in a 2-way race.

Pics and comments below.

Nader vote in 2000:

MA: 6
RI: 6
CT: 4

All three states show a similar pattern, though Connecticut's swings have been centered around the national average while the other two have always been in Dem territory. Interesting that neither JFK nor Dukakis provided a boost in the Mass. numbers. Also interesting that CT's most strongly Dem year was 2000.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays Rocco Baldelli is called "The Woonsocket Rocket" because he was a HS track champion in Rhode Island.

I see Connecticut shifting a bit further Democratic this term due to corrupt John Rowland. He stunk up the state pretty bad for the GOP. Connecticut has a few GOP Congressional seats that might flip Democratic with big turnout.

favorite placenames if they're not listed. I'm particularly partial to Leominster, though I couldn't say why.

while CT is safely blue, it ain't blue like NY, RI and MA. it's more like NJ, as you have shown.

down here on the shoreline.I'm tabling almost everyday and the more I mention the name Rowland The better.I'm getting good vibes that we are going to be pleasantly suprised just how blue CT. is.Sullivan turned out to be better candidate than anyone expected and Farrell can win if the black vote comes out big.If Kerry has the coattails we're all hoping for this could be a seachange here.

Terry has a rough road with Nancy Johnson. nationally, however, we won't have the Kerry margin as the other states, but we're certainly safe. I suspect NJ is as well.

Alot in the last few weeks and he is one guy who's working his ass off.State Sen.Billy A. is laying low and may well get his ass kicked.I've never seen so many pissed off people as I have encountered recently. We'll be at A+P in Branford form 11am until 2 with Ed and Nancy Wyman tomorrow and then more door knocking. As you can tell, I'm becoming very optimistic because of the response we're getting EVERYWHERE we go,Even places like Madison.

folks booing Bushie's people at the Newtown Labor Day parade?

To me, that's mind-boggling. Since then, it's been all Dem momentum.

Too bad nancy had such a big head start, or we'd make it 5 of 5.

Connecticut was one place where Lieberman actually helped the ticket.
