I don't know if this was posted before or not, but I believe it needs to be entered here. Everyone has been talking about "don't believe the polls, Kerry is beating Bush," or "the polls overexaggerate the Bush lead," etc. Why have I not seen a similar case laid out for ALL the House and Senate races?
Granted some worthwhile seats are nothing more than a pipe dream, but that should not stop us from considering the Poll Exaggeration Meme could be extended to the House and Senate races.
There have been growing concerns with the Castor/Martinez race in Florida, as well as the Carson/Coburn Oklahoma race and the Hoefell/Spector Pennsylvania race. But these polls that are attempting to determine the fate of their selected House and Senate races, aren't they from the same polling firms that have been trying desperately to determine the Presidential race? Why should we believe that these polls indicate a sure thing for either candidate, much less the Republican one?
We already know voter turnout will exceed anything we could have anticipated (including the rumored 72% total turnout as compared to just over 50% in 2000). I'm not saying it's guaranteed, but the chance of it happening is greater than we may think. Wasn't it just earlier this year we had no real hope of dethroning Bush, much less even regain control of the House or Senate? If we think that voter turnout will give Kerry a decisive victory, who's to say that the same cannot be said of the Senate and House seats up for grabs too?
I have a slight hope that we will get control of the Senate, yet doubt that we will do the same with the House, but high voter turnout could prove us all wrong. Wouldn't that be something else - that the voter turnout was so heavily in Kerry's favor that it, unexpectedly, delivered a Democratic-controlled Senate and House along with it?
All I can say is GOTV, GOTV, GOTV!! I did canvassing yesterday, and there is a rumbling that's beginning to tremor more heavily and will shake the political landscape for years to come! Do your part, GOTV, and let's completely win back this country!
