Pollster John Zogby says that turnout among voters 18-29 will decide this election. From
his website today:
Pollster John Zogby: "Razor thin margin here, if there is one at all. The President still does not get above 48%. The real news here is that 18-29 year olds favor Kerry 64% to 35%, with 1% for Nader--and 0% undecided. When I see a low undecided number it means that group is going to vote. I am factoring this group to be 12% of the total vote -- but it could be higher. Each point it goes higher translates into two-thirds of a percent for Kerry -- if these numbers hold up."
There it is, plain as day, the end game strategy for our side...
Young people have a notorious absentee rate at the ballot box. They typically fall under radar of GOTV efforts... They don't hang around the house as much... They are out on the move, day to day... Phone banking doesn't succeed in getting them out...
We have to go, tomorrow, to any and every place where young people can be found, and drag them, one at a time, to the polls.
Make it fun! Flirt, buy 'em a drink, make 'em laugh, if you have to give 'em a kiss... and don't accept no for an answer. "C'mon to the polling place with me right now! It's our country, after all!"
If you find yourself at any point tomorrow without something to do, not knowing what to do, wishing you could do something, contact all the under-30s you know and make them promise to vote, offer them rides, make up with your ex-girlfriends and boyfriends for a day if that is what it takes! Anything to make it happen! And once you've done that, go out looking for the ones that you don't know... at the gyms in Ohio, the boardwalks of New Jersey, the beaches of Florida, the shopping malls of Michigan, the campuses of Wisconsin, the bars of Iowa, the streets of Pennsylvania... everywhere where they can be found... go get 'em!
